Today’s post is a special one.
This weekend, I finally went to Oh Land’s concert. My first time seeing Oh Land live and her first time coming to Ankara as well.
I wrote about Oh Land before, in my first post. I missed her show in Istanbul and learned that she was going to come to Ankara which inspired me to choose my blog’s topic. She is one of my favourite musicians ever and I want to give some info about her before moving on to the concert.
Oh Land, aka Nanna Øland Fabricius, is a Danish singer-songwriter. At 30 years old, she has 4 studio albums and has been on shows all over Europe and the United States. It’s difficult to put her music under one genre. It’s a bit like indie – pop mixed with electronica. She likes to experiment, so she has many different types of songs.
Oh Land’s concert was part of the Ankara Nordic Music Festival, which held its opening in 2014. It’s organized by Altus Arts, to give some recognition to Ankara in musical and cultural events. The 3 day long event had a line up including Wardruna and Jaga Jazzist, besides Oh Land. It took place in MEB Sura Hall on 27-28-29 November.
She started off by singing “Machine”, from her album “Earth Sick (2014)”. Which you can listen below from my recording. You can also hear her saying hello to the audience at the end of the song.
Since I cannot put the entire performance here, I want to point out some highlights of the night just to show you how awesome Oh Land AND the Ankara audience is.In this recording she sang together with the fans. And later she actually posted a video herself on Facebook which you can watch here.
The name of the song is “Rainbow”, from the album “Oh Land (2011)”.
This last audio is a bit on the longer side but I think it gives the vibe of the night quite well. It’s the last 5 minutes of the show.Technically, it is after the official end of the concert, since it’s an encore. You can hear she sat down at the edge of the stage next to her fans and gave an acoustic performance.
The photos mentioned in the audio are down below.
Like Oh Land said herself, the night was totally mental. If you’re into indie-pop or electronica, you should definitely check her music out!You can listen all of her albums here in her spotify profile for free.
